Spring Season 2015 Wrap

This roller coaster of a spring season has finally drawn to an end, with a few stragglers an episode or a few behind. Quite a few turned into gems that’ll remain favorites for a long time, while others barely clung to my weekly interests. I was sad to say farewell to a couple, notably Hibike! Euphonium, Sidonia, and KinMosa, but the seasons refuse to stay longer than necessary, and I can only hope we’ll see them again soon.

*Please note that there will be obvious spoilers in my final thoughts. The series are discussed as they were finished, and in no order of preference.

Spring 2015 Set Menu

We’re into the third and fourth weeks of the spring season, and I’ve finally decided upon my line-up. They’re not in any real order, other than viewing order, and span a variety of genres. Many of them are sequels, the majority of which retain a very similar feel to their prequels. I’m also noticing more and more CG these days, sometimes tastefully inserted during actions scenes where characters are smaller and less unnatural-looking, and at other times overwhelming (see my dropped list). Anyways, have a look-see and let me know what you think and what shows you’re watching that I’ve skipped this time around!

  • Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works (TV) 2nd Season
  • Shokugeki no Souma
  • Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken S2
  • Hibike! Euphonium
  • Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha ViVid
  • Daiya no Ace 2
  • Baby Steps 2nd Season
  • Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka
  • Hello! Kin-iro Mosaic
  • Owari no Seraph
  • Arslan Senki
  • Kyoukai no Rinne
  • Ore Monogatari!!
  • Gunslinger Stratos
  • Kekkai Sensen
  • Koukaku Kidoutai: Arise – Alternative Architecture

On the 7th Day of Anime — CG Faces and Space Photosynthesis

There aren’t too many CG shows that are able to fight their way to the top of a given season, but Sidonia no Kishi had a fabulous setting and story to push it into the limelight this past spring. Sure, the vast majority of characters were exact templates of one another and I sometimes couldn’t tell the difference between one girl from another, but the original concept of the main character and his world held me enthralled. I’m reminded greatly of one of my favorite sci-fi television shows, Battlestar Galactica. Like in Sidonia, theirs is an existence shaped by alien invasion and the last resort for survival. They float boundless through achingly beautiful, yet cold, stars, constantly on the lookout for hostile encounters and natural resources for harvesting. As terrifying and abnormal as such a life may sound, their many years in space have given them the time to adjust to their new reality.

Spring 2014 Season Wrap

Spring sped on by in a flurry, and the rains quickly passed over to summer before I was ready. My spring in particular was a tumultuous one: I helped my boyfriend choose and move into a new house, every weekend has been redecorating and settling in, and I spent the last couple of weeks of the season in Japan. If you’re still here, thanks for sticking around 🙂 Please let me know what you watched this spring, and how your thoughts compare to mine!
