Yeah, very much in agreement with both here! Excellent review. Dropped Sugar Apple for most of the reasons mentioned, but am very much enjoying The Angel and Tomo-chan.
Angel is super sweet and kawaii to the max. Yes, neither has intentions but strange how feelings bubble up without expectation or controls. But they seem to suggest something in Mahiru’s backstory which causes her some distress(?). Not sure if I am reading her properly. And Tomo-chan is just 3 degrees slightly off-center into funny! Apparently neither of our reviewers here have seen EP5, but Misuzu, Carol, and Tomo spend the day together visiting each other’s homes, and we meet each of the girl’s mothers. This EP is hilariously, gut splitting Funny with a capital F. I have seen it everyday since it first aired. Agree wholeheartedly that Misuzu is queen of snark, wonderful character, but put these three together with their mothers and you have comedy gold!

Re: Angel, I did notice some references to Mahiru’s troublesome family history, but nothing else much beyond that. I expect they’ll go into further detail on that the closer the two of them get and hopefully he’ll get to meet her parents like she met his mom.
I have not yet seen ep. 5 of of Tomo-chan but more meeting of family members sounds fantastic! I can only imagine how ridiculous Carol will be in those scenarios.

Well, we learned about Mahiru’s family backstory, and it is indeed horrific. But the abuse is not as bad as it could have been. At least they provided financial support. But does that in anyway compensate for a total lack of love and affection, especially Mother Love? This EP 7 goes a long way to explaining why Mahiru makes all that effort for Amane! If Amane’s mother ever hears this story, she will embrace Mahiru as her daughter, and then Sayo better check behind her to see what’s closing in.
I am really enjoying this slow burn romance and with this major plot reveal, The Angel Next Door is a solid hit on my queue!
