The Anime Blogger Interrogation Game

Not too long ago I was tagged by deluscar’s Kai and Traveler on Revenge’s ahelo into the Anime Blogger Interrogation Game.  Started by blogger Iso, the aim of this game is for bloggers to get to know one another by asking and answering random questions before tagging new bloggers into the fun.

Rules
(copy/pasted from the original)

  • Each person is supposed to follow the rule of fives. You are allowed to ask 5 questions, after which you can tag up to 5 bloggers by hyper-linking to their blog; 5 questions because it’s not too many to flood another blogger and occupy too much of his/her time, but yet a large enough number to ask your most important questions, and 5 bloggers to avoid spamming. Hence, prioritize your questions, and who you wish to ask!
  • Those tagged are obliged to answer the questions in a blog post, and after which, they are entitled to create their own 5 questions and tag 5 other bloggers, so on and so fourth. You are allowed to tag the person that tagged you in the first place. Also, copy and paste this section on your blog so others can understand how the game goes.
  • In the case where a blogger strongly refuses to answer a question, he/she must instead post a nice anime image, wallpaper or cosplay picture, et cetera in response to that question.
  • To make things interesting, a blogger can include wildcards in his/her 5 questions by placing an asterisk, (*), after which those tagged are obliged to reveal something interesting about themselves that others did not previously know. There is no limit to the number of asterisks one can place (which means there can be up to 5 wildcard questions).
  • Anyone can feel free to start the game; you don’t necessarily need someone to tag you. Just create your 5 questions and tag your 5 people of choice. However, the catch is that you must answer your own 5 questions as well.
  • To potentially prevent an endless game, this round of games will end on the 8th September 2012, 12pm JST (GMT +9). After which, no more bloggers can tag others to answer their questions.

Kai’s Questions to Five Lucky Bloggers
(including
Nopy, Ace, Yerocha, Justin, and me)

1. Do you study the Japanese language? If so, what is your progress?

I do not currently pursue studies in the language, but I did take a couple years at the beginning of my graduate degree program.  That was two years ago, so I’ve forgotten a good amount of the kanji from then.  I do still remember all of the hiragana and katakana, and my listening and verbal skills are noticeably better than my writing and reading.

I will most likely pick up the language again as soon as possible to complete a third, and maybe even fourth year.  Not only is this beneficial for my overall interests in the culture, but is also a requirement in many of the Doctorate programs in which I’m interested.

2. What’s your most embarrassing moment?

I think think the older I get, the more impossible answering such a question becomes.  Each year adds on more experiences, happy, sad, and of course embarrassing.  The most recent horrifying moment that still stands vividly in my mind is when I betrayed the person closest to my heart.  Not only did I betray that person, but also myself. Not a day goes by when I don’t reflect on my past actions.  I won’t go into any further details.

3. What kind of anime world would you like to live in?

There was a question like this somewhere else a while back, and my answer now is the same as then: I would pack up everything, including my dog and boyfriend (ha! the order of that), and move to ARIA’s Aqua as quickly as my feet could move.  That re-imagining of Venice as a softer sort of place, where time moves slowly and the seasons stretch through each phase, is my idea of heaven.  Neo Venezia’s love for its people and setting is unparalleled by any other anime.

4. Is there any anime/manga which motivates you to learn something?

Strange enough, watching Working!! interested me in the food service industry, not as a full-time job, but as a part-timer during my graduate studies.  I picked up the job on that whim, and became integrated into a work crew almost as quirky as those at Wagnaria!

And I can’t pinpoint the one anime exactly that enamored me with cooking, but anime it was that started my kitchen endeavors.  I didn’t have any interest in the art beforehand, but seeing those exaggerated eating faces and hearing all the yums and slurps made me hungry every time.  I wanted to recreate what I saw, and still do!

5. Which anime character do you feel you can relate to the most?

Again, I think this changes almost every anime season, but I think I currently stand somewhere next to Moyashimon Returns‘ Hazuki Oikawa.  Although she appears to be on track in the agricultural school, her own interests are not clear.  Similar to Sawaki, she seems to be led around by the passions of those around her, like Hasegawa and the mischief makers Misato and Kawahama.  Her future plans haven’t been stated, and we never see her particularly excited about any given project.

Right now I’m struggling to finish my thesis, one on a topic for which I’ve lost almost all motivation and interest.  I don’t really know what I’ll do after getting my MA, whether I want to try jumping into an immediate job in the field, or go straight into the next level of schooling (PhD? Law school per my parents’ hopes?), or if I want to get a job in a different area altogether for a few years while I sort out my head.

ahelo’s Five Head-Scratching Questions
(including DDK, TPAB, Subarashikun, and Draggle)

1. If Ben had 3 Apples and Lisa ate 2, how did Adele set Fire to the Rain?

Assuming that Lisa ate Ben’s CRISP RED APPLES, I ate the remaining one, and Adele’s figurative attempt at torching her love makes sense to me in a hopeless kind of way.  I always took the lyrics to the song to be her story of a love that revealed an uglier side than she expected, and that no matter how much she may have tried to burn away her attachment to him, she can never forget the memories of how he “saved” her–it’s as impossible as trying to burn water.  Image wise, you could compare it to an oil spill, where the oil on top may be burning, but the water beneath remains.

2. How will you help Rihanna remember her name?

Well obviously I’d have to be a guy for this insecure woman to depend on to tell her her name every five seconds.  This song is a pathetic tale of a girl who point blank says how she needs a boy to run her life.

3. If you are daring, HOW DARE YOU?

But I’m not daring… 😦 I usually always play things safe–while this assures that I’m usually in a state of comfort, it also means that I never really try hard at something that could possibly be the greatest move ever.

4. Explain the Saki Phenomenon in Anime Saimoe Tournament in no less that 150 words.

I’m sorry, ahelo, but I’m not following AST at all 😦 I only take part in ISML, and that’s already time consuming enough!

5. In relation to question number 4 which has absolutely no relation to the first three questions, WHO WILL WIN ANIME SAIMOE TOURNAMENT 2012? Explain using Saki as the power of X with Toki as X^5, Akari Akaza as 0^infinity and sniping as an imaginary number. If you do not wish to use this formula, create your own. If you do not wish to use any formula, explain why.

WHAT IS THIS QUESTION? I DON’T EVEN

MY Questions to YOU
I’ll be directing my questions to Avvesione, simpleek, FoxyLadyAyame, Sabishii Miruku, and ahelo.

  1. If you had to cosplay as one anime character at the largest anime convention closest to you, who would you be, and why?
  2. What is your favorite post on Anime B&B? If possible, explain.
  3. You’ve just been informed that you have one more day to live.  What last meal would you like to eat?
  4. Looking at Hunter x Hunter‘s Nen chart and role descriptions, where do you most likely fit? Is that what you would wish for, or would you like to have a different ability?
    1. Enhancers are determined and simple. Most of them never lie and hide nothing. Their words and actions are often dominated by their feelings. They are generally very selfish and focused on their goals.
    2. Emitters are impatient and not detail-oriented. Many of them quick-tempered and hot-blooded. They resemble the users in building their impulsivity, but the difference with them, they probably tend to calm down and forget more easily.
    3. Manipulators are logical people who advance at their own pace. They are all for arguments and tend to want to keep their families and loved ones safe. On the other hand, when it comes to pursuing their own goals, they do not listen to what others might have to say about it.
    4. Transmuters are whimsical liars. Transmutation users have unique attitudes, and many are regarded as weirdos or cheaters. They rarely reveal their true intentions.
    5. Conjurers are typically high-strung.They are often on guard as to be overly cautious. They are very observant and rarely fall into the traps. Being able to analyze things calmly is the strength of the materialization of users.
    6. Specialists are individualistic and charismatic. They will tell you anything important on them, and refrain from being close friends. But, because of their natural charisma that draws others, they are always surrounded by many people.
  5. Your life’s an anime accompanied by its own soundtrack and theme songs.  Which composer would you like in control of your OST?

Aaaaand, my own answers to my questions:

  1. Shirafuji Kyouko of Working!! I think I could pull her off very, very well since both our personalities and looks are a bit similar.  Plus, her outfit looks fairly simple to execute.  The closest major convention to me is Seattle, WA’s Sakuracon, which is perfect weather-wise.  I don’t think I’d want to wear Kyouko’s collared shirt in the sweltering heat of LA’s AX.
  2. My favorite post, and the one I’m most proud of, is probably my discussion of epic-scale anime.  Not only does it combine an area of literature I felt very familiar with at the time of writing the post, but it also covers some of my most beloved shows and characters.  I’ve been lazy lately with my lack of outside sources when discussing anime and would like to write more editorials in line with this post.
  3. As much as I love Japanese food, NO, my choice isn’t some Japanese dish! :p I grew up with my mom’s Filipino home cooking, and would like nothing more than to gorge myself on her delicious adobo and lumpia.  The savory flavors are intense and perfectly complement a bowl of fluffy white rice.
  4. I’m most likely a manipulator, since I tend to walk at my own stride despite the pushing of those closest to me.  I admit that, in person, I’m a bit argumentative, but I do try and listen to others’ points of view before setting my foot down.  I’d prefer to be a specialist since I usually have a hard time being sociable around large groups of people; I already refrain from quickly becoming close to others. I wouldn’t mind adding a bit of charisma into the mix since those I know with such allure tend to also be very lucky in everything they do.
  5. ARIA’s composers Takeshi Senoo and the Choro Club would be a dream come true for my anime’s OST.  I don’t actually know of anything else by them, but their work on the three main soundtracks of the ARIA trilogy are enough to capture my love.  The music is calmly uplifting, combining strings and piano with water-like rippling effects.  If my life’s music embodied these feelings, then I will have led a truly satisfying life.

  1. It’s always fun to learn about the bloggers I follow. I am not surprised by any of this. Guess I’ve been following you long enough to have a good idea what you’re like. I do think I should add ARIA to my anime to watch list though.

Hmm…this comment is too weak. I’ll answer your questions as well.

    1. I don’t really know tbh. A character with long dark hair and a thin frame. Gimme an option? lol

    2. I’m gonna say the music anime one. I just enjoyed the combination of you talking about the anime and yourself in one post. I just liked seeing how the anime related to you directly.

    3. Is it odd this is such a tough question for me? There are so many amazing foods out there. I’m gonna say put up a bunch of foods I’ve never tried and draw a few out of a hat. Maybe an all I can eat buffet of them all and just taste as many as I can first.

    4. Gonna have to cheat a little on this one. I’ll say I’m an Enhancer only lacking the selfishness.

    5. Origa. I just love her voice. Plain and simple.

    • I would never dissuade anyone from watching ARIA, as it’s my favorite series, but I do warn you that its slow pacing and meandering stories can be boring for those who prefer a more linear storyline full of drama and action. Regardless, I hope you enjoy it!

I’m thrilled that you took the time to answer my questions 🙂 A male character with the description you gave could really be found anywhere! Long, dark hair is pretty popular among anime set in feudal Japan, so you could maybe pull off a Samurai Champloo’s Jin if you were also pale and had some glasses (real or prop).

I’m fond of my musical discussion in the Apollon post, as well. When it comes to the topic of music, I always have a hard time keeping my personal asides out of the discussion ><

I'm not familiar with Origa's music, though I see that it includes the anime Ghost in the Shell. From what I was able to find, the music is fairly upbeat, yet otherworldly at the same time. Is there a song of hers that's your favorite?

  2. I’m pretty able too enjoy any genre of anime. Or at least give it a fair shot with an open mind.

I actually had to look up Jin tbh. I’d say that’s a scary good call after looking him up though. I already have the long ponytail. My bangs are way longer though so that’d be tricky.

Don’t make that face. I think it’s a blogger’s style and personality that seperates them from other similar bloggers.

That’s actually where I found her. After I’d seen all of Ghost in a Shell: Stand Alone Complex I’d still flip to it just to listen to “Inner Universe”. Still my favorite too. Also the song to get me to check out more anime music as I term it.

I finished Trigun Maximum and it is vastly different from the anime. It’s more serious in tone and the insurance girls are not nearly as featured. It almost felt more like an alternate version.

I’ve also read Spaceship EE (Seemed unique in both art style and content. A little rough, but I liked it) and FLCL (I still don’t know what I read tbh. Just a bit too random and didn’t really flow enough for me to follow). I’m now reading Helsing.

    • Well, you could also always try a wig and cut the hair on that. I’ve never had the chance to play around with a wig before, but they look fairly easy to style like real hair.

I’ve only seen the film, Ghost in the Shell 2.0, which I really liked. I avoided SAC since I usually saw it dubbed in the background on TV and I didn’t like the voices. Maybe I’ll try and give the TV show another chance >< And listen to the music this time around, too!

Well, I haven't read any Trigun manga, but judging from what I’ve read about it it looks like there are two multi-volume manga series, with the one you read being the second one published. I wonder how different the two are since Maximum is also much longer than the other, which is only 3 volumes long.

I also tried FLCL the anime, but couldn’t get it. That was early on in my anime-viewing, so the weird was too much for me at the time. I really need to re-watch it. I hope you like Hellsing, but I honestly didn’t enjoy the anime much at all. Crossing my fingers that the manga is better!

  3. It’s pretty nice that you have such a single focused motivation you had from an anime. As you can see, my motivations from anime and the things I had learned/learning from them are just all over the place. I’m soooo easily influnced.

You asked some interesting questions too. For the Hunter X Hunter, I think I’m an Emitter. I’m not the calmest of people and is obviouly impatient at times. When I do things, I think speed. I aspire to be someone who can think logically and make calm decisions, no matter the situation, but my “quick-panicky” personality makes it hard no matter how calm I make myself to be.

For the soundtracks question, I would love to have Chrono Club too^^ Their works on Aria are so calm and relaxing it almost soothes one’s souls. However, for my ideal anime world, Sci fi + Magic (Fairy Tail-like), I think it would be awesome if I mix in the music by Maiko Iuchi (To Aru Majutsu no Index) with some Celtic music, not sure how that would come out but it would certainly be an interesting fushion.

    • I don’t think it’s a bad thing to be influenced by everything you see, since it’s pretty much impossible not to be, but it is good to have focus on just a few of them if you hope to really specialize in new areas. Kind of off-topic, but I really had this problem as an undergraduate and even now in real life since I have too many interests to really be passionate about just one thing for a career. Right now I feel like I’m just getting pulled into a flow that doesn’t go where I really want to go.

As an emitter, I wonder what type of special skills you’d have ^^ You join awesome characters like Leorio and Melody!

Maiko Iuchi, huh? And a mixture of celtic…hmm, that’s a tough one. The only composer that quickly comes to mind that had a celtic sound is Arrietty’s Cecile Corbel, but I’m sure there are darker-sounding composers out there to meld with the music by Maiko.

  4. My mom has a few wigs and extensions so I know a bit about them. Hers are real hair so yeah.

The two Trigun manga are really just one long one. I’m not sure why the name changed. I read both and the two one shots as well.

  5. To question 2: Since Kai was willing to think really hard on what embarrassed us, I’m REALLY gonna think about it. Even though I already fear crying in the future 😦 But in all seriousness I’m finding it difficult to remember an embarrassing moment, which is the opposite of you it seems. Sorry that you still have a memory that’s affected you at a personal level. I guess I still have yet to experience it…

To question 3: You gonna put your boyfriend in the suitcase? Is there one his size 😀

    Like

    • Well, like I said, I’m easily embarrassed >< I've gotten a lot better as the years go by, but I still have a bit of a thin skin.

And my bf is pretty tall, 6'1", so I'd be hard pressed to find a big enough suitcase! Maybe if he curled up really tight he'd be able to fit into a hockey bag or something :p

  6. I’ll answer your questions here, since I’m pressured of other things in real life, plus the other 2 posts I want to write before the month ends, but perhaps it’ll be impossible :/ So…

    1. You surely know the answer 😛 Horo FTW! For my first (big) convention I’d like sth relatively simple to create and I can cosplay along with Neko as Lawrence ❤ I also think I can be in character very easily 😉

    2. Well, you already know this, too, since I've reblogged this post to my WP account. "Dude, it's epic" is indeed a great informative and well-searched post that serves at the same time as recommendation material for awesome series. Second favorite is the "Statement Jewelry and Reading Your Character", which I find very clever and charming (it also has Horo in it!). I've confessed to you my love for attention to detail that to others might appear trivial, but for me is utterly excitng 🙂

    3. My last meal, huh? I'll go with a full course. For appetiser, I want that wonderful refreshing salad my granny makes that includes yoghurt, mayonnaise, hard boiled eggs, apples, carrots, cabbage and beetroot. For main course, I have difficulties deciding between a soyu ramen and medium beef filet with unpilled potatoes and carrots and vinegar sauce as side dice. Lastly, quince in the oven with a ball of kaimaki ice-cream (kaimaki has mastic taste) next to it would make a dreamy dessert~

    4. From the descriptions above, I think I'm an Enhancer. I tresure honesty highly, but I have to admit that in order to retain a level of freedom in my family, I often lie. My determination might wave, too, but these behaviors are dictated by my feelings and selfishness. I'm also very good at encouraging other people and there are friends that come to me for advice (the strengthening abilities aspect)- though I fail to encourage myself *sweatdrop*. I wish I could be a Conjurer. I need to be more cautious around people – I trust them relatively easily- and analysing things calmly is a most desired virtue – I'm spontaneous and it doesn't take much for me to panic.

    5. I'd love Ryuuchi Sakamoto to compose music for the OST of my life, but I'm not sure he counts since he isn't involved in anime soundtracks. If we go to composers for anime, I'll have to say Toshio Masuda (Mushishi, Naruto) or Joe Hisaishi (Ghibli films).

    • Yay, I’m glad you took the time to answer my questions! I don’t mind at all that you didn’t post in your thread; sometimes these carnival things come too closely together, or you don’t want to create filler on your blog.

I would be so, so embarrassed to cosplay as Horo because of how self conscious I am my body. I would have to don her clothing if I were to do any photos instead of her popular nude look :p I’m curious if you’d prefer her first outfit, the one using Lawrences clothes, or her later, sort-of tan look that we see in the second season. Going as a couple with Neko would be fabulous!

I’m really glad you like my more literary posts. I take a lot of satisfaction out of producing them since they take special time and research, but they are so difficult to write to satisfaction. I also would like to do more fashion posts, but I admit that I’m really not that knowledgeable about that area quite yet.

Full course!? You glutton, you! I absolutely adore multi-course meals as long as they’re proportioned correctly, and I would loooove to taste your granny’s salad ❤ Everything you describe I'm down for tasting!

I think I could guess at you choosing enhance from the little amount of time that I've been able to get to know you. I'm curious, though, what type of skills you'd have ^^ I don't know enough again here about HunterxHunter since I never saw the original to see what all the various examples of Enhances there are besides Gon.

Great music choices, by the way. I adore Mushishi, and of course Having Joe Hisaishi would be beyond wonderful ^^

      • Nude Horo cosplay is off limits to public, ofc! lol *blush* I think I would go for the outfit with the triangular hat, since it’s also sth I can wear in everyday life as well. And the fabrics will cost less, I think. (btw what to you mean by tan look?)

I understand your feelings about more academic posts. It’s time-consuming thus on the one hand satisfactory, on the other hand you become more self-aware and doubt your wording and structure. Also, these posts are those that get postponed more easily since there are things in real life going on and they get prioritized naturally.

Fashion is an exciting topic, ain’t it? I think though it’s difficult to analyze it, if the outfits self-evidently describe a character (eg leather jacket for a punk) . But yes, I guess fashion history lessons and some color theory would definitely help in perceiving and analyzing clothes and accessories of anime characters.

I’m not glutton! You’ve seen how thin I am 😛 It’s my final meal, shouldn’t I get to taste as much of my top flavors as I can? Hehe, I don’t eat big portions, so people shouldn’t get the wrong idea. When the chance is given and we can chat again, I’ll give you the recipes 😀 They are delicious I tell you, no, I guarantee it to you!

I searched just now the wiki and I believe that Palm Siberia’s or Bat’s attacks would suit me more.

        Thanks for having me~
