Extended About Me | Ace Railgun’s 50 Questions

It’s survey time, and I thank Ace Railgun for starting this fun activity.  This post will also be added on to my About Me section.  The questions start centered on anime, then move on to more personal questions.  If you have any additional inquiries, please leave a comment!

Anime Questions

  1. Who is your favorite male anime character?
Probably Sagara Sousuke from Full Metal Panic! This was a tough choice since I’m also a huge fan of Mushishi’s Ginko and Steins;Gate’s Okarin.  But, I just had to go with Sousuke’s hilarious blend of guerilla fighter mentality and social ineptitude.
  2. Who is your favorite female character?
Noda “Nodame” Megumi of Nodame Cantabile.  She’s got such a quirky, musical soul and would make each day more interesting than the last.
  3. What is your favorite anime soundtrack?
I still can’t get over the works of Joe Hisaishi in the Ghibli films Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.  I spent the better part of my undergrad years studying and sleeping to those soundtracks.  They get me in a calm state of mind that I find all too difficult to obtain anywhere else.
  4. What is your favorite anime opening + animation?
This is really tough because I am in utter love with all the OPs of the three ARIA seasons.  If I had to choose, it would be ARIA the Animation‘s “Undine,” because it immediately puts me in a state of nostalgia.  I also adore that the opening visuals differ from episode to episode, so I always sit through them instead of skipping like in most other anime.
  5. What is your favorite anime ending song + animation?
Spice and Wolf‘s “Whistling Song.”  From the first time I heard it and until the first season ended, I would sit through the entire ending and sing along with the lyrics.  I’m a pretty adept whistler, too, so I would whistle the melody as I went about my day.  The manga stills in the ending sequence are simple, but adorable.
  6. What is your favorite anime scene?
Episode seven, “In That Gently Passing Time…”, of ARIA The Origination where we see how Aria-shachou became President of ARIA Company.
  7. If you could meet an anime character who would it be?
Balsa of Seirei no Moribito–she’s a bit of a role model for me, with her confidence, maturity, and self-control.
  8. What anime character is most similar to you in terms of personality?
Post-friendship Kawashima Ami, of ToradoraShe gives off this mature air and usually always has some type of advice to give, whether people want to hear it or not.  She also has this constant glint of mischief in her eye and doesn’t hesitate to use her knowledge to her benefit.  She reminds me of my hesitation with befriending too many people, as well, as she has a very limited number of people who she can truly act herself around.
  9. What is your favorite thing about anime?
How diverse it is.  It’s a medium that has no boundaries and continually surprises me with the new directions and interpretations that it takes.  I have also met the most incredibly fascinating people through anime, both in real life and online.
  10. What is your least favorite thing about anime?
The stereotypes that come with it.  I can’t stand how people with little knowledge of it make broad judgements of the medium and of those who enjoy it.
  11. Who is your favorite anime couple?
Currently, it’s Makise Kurisu and Okabe Rintarou of Steins;Gate, though I’m also a supporter of Makino and Rui of Hana Yori Dango.
  12. Who is your favorite anime animal?
    Aria-shachou of ARIA
  13. What anime would make a good game?
It would be interesting to see Juuni Kokuki turned into an RPG.  Because that world is so complex and filled with innumerable characters and creatures, I think the transition to game would be very easy.  I’m not sure what type of art style I’d want, whether that be a more mature look like the anime, or perhaps a cuter style ala the Tales franchise.
  14. What game would make a good anime?
I’m with Yumeka on this one: Okami. It’s one of my favorite video games, and I would love to see an anime adaptation of it.  I’m not sure how it would go over with the wolf goddess as the protagonist, but I’d be willing to see a company give it a try.
  15. What was the first anime you ever watched?
Spirited Away when I was a freshman in university
  16. Do you think you’ll ever stop watching anime?
That’s very unlikely, since anime is relatable to so many different age groups.  I’ll probably always find something that I like.
  17. What is your favorite genre of anime?
It used to be slice-of-life, but I’ve noticed an immediate fandom of josei comedies and dramas like Nodame Cantabile, Honey & Clover, and Kuragehime. I guess you could also consider those slice-of-life.
  18. What is your least favorite genre of anime?
    The harem
  19. Are you open about watching anime with people you know?
No, I’m actually very hesitant to let people know about my hobbies.  I tend to put out feelers here and there with subtle references.  If they react, I can then go more in depth and ask them if they watch anime.  If there’s no reaction, I just let the moment pass.  I’ve run across too many people in my area who have strong negative feelings towards anime, and I’d rather not get into an argument about it.
  20. Have you ever been to Japan?
Not yet, though I hope to some day so I can visit my past exchange student sisters.
  21. What anime was the biggest let down for you?
I was extremely excited for Fractale after the first episode, but as you know, things spiraled down from there.
  22. What anime was better then expected?
I really didn’t know what to think about Kemono no Souja, Erin when I saw the visuals, but I was hooked after the very first episode.
  23. What is the best anime fight scene?
The fight between Balsa and a former rival of hers in episode 13 of Seirei no Moribito.  The battle is all the more compelling since it’s one that she has been avoiding but is now forced for the sake of a couple of passerby whose lives are endangered.  This is the first time that we see a completely animalistic side to Balsa, where she reveals a very rare slip in her self control.
  24. Who is your anime waifu?
    Mizunashi Akari of ARIA
  25. What was your favorite video game as a child?
I didn’t really play video games when I was a kid, but if I had to pick, it would probably be Donkey Kong Country.

Personal Questions

  1. Most embarrassing moment?
Probably my senior year of high school and dating a friend for the sake of being in a relationship.  We weren’t really attracted to each other but felt like it was the “thing to do.”  I had no clue how to be in a relationship and neither did he, and we ultimately ruined our friendship.
  2. Can you drive? Do you own a car?
My license claims I can.  And no, but I do own a truck.  That’s how it’ll always be.
  3. Are you mature?
    Yes, and no :p
  4. What year were you born?
    1986
  5. Do you prefer cats or dogs?
While I do very much like cats, I’m more of a dog person.  They’re what I’ve always had growing up, and I like me a pet who I can wrap my arms around and wrestle with from time to time.  Over the course of my life, I’d like to own a Bernese Mountain dog, a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, an Akita Inu, and a Great Pyrenees.  Up to date, I have owned a black labrador, a yellow labrador, and a black lab/Belgian Tervuren mix.
  6. Describe yourself physically.
5’5″ and of medium build.  I have FIlipino and Spanish blood and consider myself pretty attractive.  I work out from time to time and also love me some fun clothing!
  7. What would you name your first child?
I used to want the name “Marina”, but as I’ve taken that as my online persona, it would feel weird to tell my future daughter that I have a whole other self with the same name.  I also like the female names “Ayaka” and “Malaya”.  I find it silly that I keep thinking up girl names when I would actually prefer boys, but I really don’t want to have kids for at least 5 or so years.
  8. What is the worst injury you have ever had?
I drowned in a pool when I was 4-years-old and had to be resuscitated and kept in the hospital for a while.
  9. What is your worse habit?
I’m incredibly lazy and love sleeping.  I could lounge in bed all day.
  10. Do you drink or smoke?
I indulge in drinks now and then–my favorites include bloody mary, vodka & tonic, Corona w/ fresh lime, cabernet sauvignon, and pinot grigio.
I absolutely cannot stand the smell of cigarettes.
  11. Do you have a tattoo?
Nope, and I’ll never consider it.  I like my skin sexy and clean.
  12. Are you a morning person or a night person?
I’m battling my preference for night time, since it is completely ruining my daily schedule.  Don’t talk to me in the morning until after I’ve had my coffee.
  13. Have you ever slept past midday?
Are you kidding me? I’m the queen of sleeping in.  And napping.
  14. Do you regret anything?
Of course I do (relationships mostly).  I too often let my heart run away without my head.
  15. Can you count the number of friends you have on one hand?
Those I would consider close, yes.
  16. Do you wear glasses?
I do, though I usually only use them in the evening.  I sometimes go through a couple of weeks where I wear them 24/7, usually because I’m too lazy to wear my contacts.
  17. Are you a picky eater?
Not in the slightest.  I’ll try almost anything once, and have very few things that I dislike. I think it’d be a shame if I were a picky eater given the title of my blog >.<
  18. Would you die for someone?
I can’t really say without being in the actual moment.
  19. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I’ve thought about this a ton before, and I always come up with different answers.  They’ve included time travel, flight, body shifting, psychic abilities, among many others.
  20. Do you believe in the supernatural?
I’m not shut to the idea of it, but also don’t count on it being a reality.
  21. Would you rather be rich or famous?
Rich–you can be famous for bad things just as much as good.  Plus, I wouldn’t want to deal with the paparazzi.
  22. Have you ever committed a crime.
Technically yes, as speeding tickets are infractions.  The only other crime I’ve committed is perhaps being too darn cute…but that’s a whole different story.
  23. Pirates or ninjas? Time Traveler or ghost?
Why would anyone want to be a ghost? The obvious answer is “time travler,” though I would prefer the Harry Potter version to the type shown in Steins;Gate.
  24. Does someone have a crush on you?
    I would certainly hope so!
  25. Are you in a relationship?
We’re on six years and counting.

  1. I enjoyed reading your answers ^_^

Nice to know another Okami fan!

I think Burmese Mountain dogs are lovely and wouldn’t mind having one when I finally have the right circumstances in my life to have a dog (I prefer big dogs). My friend has two Welsh Corgis, one of which I’ve known since he was a puppy eight years ago.

    • The only sad thing about Berners is that they have a short life span, about 7-8 years. That’s such a small amount of time for a pup so big in size and love!

And I meant to ask you, but are you going to AX again this year? If so, I have a bazillion questions to ask >.<

      • Yes I am…are you going too? If so, we should definitely meet up =) If the questions you have are extensive, please feel free to e-mail me (animedreamer [at] animeyume.com)

        • I’m planning on going this year (my first time ever at a con) and I have some concerns regarding hotels, transportation, and just general issues with number of days for a first-timer. I’ll be sure to E-mail you 🙂

  2. I want a time traveling microwave. Not how it’s used mind you, but it’s a TIME…TRAVELING…MICROWAVE! The awesomeness cannot be denied.

Anywho, would I have hung out with you and gone for a mocha if we were born in the same country? First I’d have to get the courage to talk to you. Other than that, yup. I would have.

    Like

    • I can make you the tastiest mocha ever, though I would whip myself up a white mocha with a bit of creme de cacao syrup >.<

And I agree on the awesomeness of the microwave, though I would be very sad if anyone put my precious food inside of it and turned them to gel 😦

      • Please do not tease me with your feminine charms mistress. Were you not already taken, I would have…dare I say it…struck a conversation with you offline! “Bum bum bumuuuuum”

Indeed. Let’s do our best to keep all non-soup liquid items away from the microwave. LORD knows I wouldn’t want my niece to accidentally insert my ice cream bar in there…again.

  3. Very interesting answers, especially #8 for anime. I have played bit of Okami, so I guess I can kind of see it as an anime series, but guess it would be interesting to see happen (especially in the case of the animation).

    • It’s been a while since I’ve seen Toradora!, but I remember liking Ami a whole lot better after her little turnaround. I felt like I really understood her character, despite the little we really got to know about her.

  4. I would love to see Juuni Kokuki made into a game as well… Actually, I would have settled for a satisfactory ending as well. I loved that anime so much, but it ended way too abruptly. 😦

    Also, ♥ Aria.

    Like

    • I agree, the ending to Juuni Kokuki was just…missing. Every time I go to the bookstore to find the books, they’re always sold out. I don’t know if they have an ending or not, but I really have to know more than what the anime gave us. My favorite characters are Yoko and Rakushun.

If only Aqua was a real place, and I could call ARIA Company for a tour of New Venezia. I would pay to have Akari take me to all her favorite places (especially a stop for some hot yams).

  5. Hey, thanks for including me in your list of participants, my blog’s had a lot of traffic today and I reckon it’s largely ’cause of that!

Enjoyed reading your answer to the 50 questions! I’m looking forward to checking out more of your blog in my spare time!

  6. Now I really want to watch an Okami anime.

Balsa is a great role model to have she was one of the few anime character I can remember that felt like a real human and not an ideal portrayal of one.

I’m surprised to hear you only got into anime in university. Most of us watch it as children and never stopped.

    Like

    • I grew up in a very small town, and the only anime fan I knew was through a girl with ADD/OCD who wore Pokemon t-shirts. I honestly thought anime was only for kids. I was lucky to meet a friend in college who tricked me into watching Spirited Away. Then another friend gave me a huge pile of discs with various anime he thought I would enjoy.

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  7. Six years! Wow, congrats~

Just started watching Twelve Kingdoms and I also think it would be fun to play as an RPG. It’s got some great world building.

And thanks for including me in the participants list!

I really hope you enjoy Juuni Kokuki, though I do warn you that there is a lack of closure. Don’t let that stop you from watching the whole thing, though 🙂 Yoko turns into an incredible woman.

  8. It’s strange how we (or maybe just I?) develop a mental picture of people I befriend on the Internet. I don’t really know how I pictured you, but I thought of you as Caucasian (perhaps your writing feels that way? maybe your location?).

Anyway, I’m always delighted to find another Asian American pal! (me = Korean/white). 🙂

Oooh, and congrats on six years…that’s quite a long time!

    • Heya Charles, and welcome back from your retreat 🙂 I hope you and your family had fun.

I probably give off the impression that I do because I study a lot of literature, particularly British literature? I’m trying to delve more into Asian and Children’s literature, but they’re simply not as prevalent, especially at the high school and university levels. I was also raised in a small town that is majority Caucasian. Thanks on the congrats 🙂

  9. Im so glad i see someone adknowledge Whistling Song from spice and wolf, that some deserve more recognition heck all of them.

i was disappointed about the sales of it since it didnt do too well, well it wasnt forecasted to be like that

    Like

    • Spice and Wolf is such a unique anime, and Holo has been one of my favorite characters since the first season. I wasn’t too surprised about the sales given the style and premise of the anime, but hey, that’s more for us to hoard to ourselves, right? 😉

      Like

    • There have been some solid male characters recently, but I agree that it seems like they’re drowning in a sea of faceless female characters. His lack of understanding for Chidori’s feelings and the extremity of his actions in the school setting created some of the most hilarious scenes in the show 🙂

  10. Oooh, Sousuke. He’s right up there for me with Akito Hayama from Kodocha and Tsukasa Domyoji from Hana Yori Dango. I like those socially inept guys who still manage to be sweet and cool too. 🙂 Nice answers; I definitely agree with you on numbers nine and ten – I hate that people lump all anime together even though there’s so much variety, and I find it interesting that the two biggest stereotypes of anime (‘it’s all for kids’ and ‘it’s all violent tentacle porn’) basically contradict each other.

And I laughed at number two on your personal questions – I live in New York City so I can’t drive either.

  11. I’m glad to see you like dogs. Alot of bloggers which answeared those 50 questions usually like cats. Cats are too lazy. All they do is eat and sleep!Sure, they are cute sometimes but they annoy the hell out of me for some reason. Dogs on the other hand are loyal and alot smarter than cats.

Also about that incident when you drowned. Do you remember any of it? Because I can barely remember anything from when I was 4 years old.

    Like

    • Yes, cats are crazy ridiculous among anime fans, among Internet users in general for some odd reason. Despite being more of a dog person, I do very much like cats and plan to have one some day.

I do remember my drowning incident, though my images are hazy like a dream. I remember being in the shallow end and thinking that the kids in the deep end looked like they were having a lot more fun. I wanted to join them. I walked along my side up to the separating buoys and just ducked under them and kept walking along the continuing lowering bottom. Next thing I knew I couldn’t get myself above the surface for air, and I panicked. Classic drowning attitude–I grabbed for someone’s legs and distinctly remember being kicked away. After that the panic turned into a weird falling asleep sensation. I woke up in the ambulance.

      Like

      • Wow, that’s a bad memory. The panic is what actually kills people that are drowining. But then again you were just 4 years old so it’s quite normal to panic in theese kind of situations.

Anyway, do you still have those labradors? I previously owned a yellow labrador as well. He ran away when he was 5 years old though. 😦

        Like

        • Both my purebred black and yellow labradors died while I was away at college some years ago. My parents were with them through everything 😦 They died at around the ages of 12-14. I’m sorry to hear about your own pup who disappeared.

There is just so much to comment on and trust me I’m itching too. So I’ll make this offer to you since I can’t commit to such a long comment right now. You can remind me when I am on a pc again someday or have me do the questions too. I just feel bad I can’t leave the comment this rightfully deserves.
